The WCKA Kickboxing and Karate Squad, who train in Swansea, Aberdare, Pontypridd, Rhondda, Caerphilly and the Vale of Glamorgan, travelled to Karlsruhe in Germany for the 2007 WKA World Championships.
There were 43 countries and over 1000 competitors at the championships, which is open to all styles e.g. karate, kickboxing, tae kwon do etc so it is an excellent stage to test your skills.
The Welsh team returned with 4 Gold, 4 Silver and 8 Bronze Medals, which is a fantastic achievement from a relatively small squad.
The WKA World Championships now offers Traditional Kumite in addition to the usual freestyle kickboxing divisions and the WCKA is one of the few organisations who have produced top fighters in both Traditional Karate & Freestyle Kickboxing so it was great that we were able to show our great skills to the world.
From the WCKA, Nathan Withers and James Bailyes took the Gold Medals in the Junior Sparring both beating England in the final.
The team are proud of all those who entered as everyone gave 100%. The full medal count for the WCKA is –
