Halloween Safety Tips

  • Be careful, be smart, and be safe.
  • Have children wear light-colored costumes, preferably with some reflective qualities to help them to be visible after dark.
  • Thoroughly check all candy and discard any questionable pieces.
  • Make sure costumes are not too long, and that they don't block the child's vision.
  • Give children a cellular phone or money to call home if they need to.
  • Avoid using masks.   It's much better to use non-toxic and hypoallergenic face paints or make up.
  • Set a specific time for children to be home and make sure the children understand the importance of sticking to it.
  • Give your child a flashlight with a fresh set of batteries to carry.
  • Warn them never to get into a stranger's car, or enter a home or an apartment building without a trusted adult being present.
  • Ensure that all costumes and accessories are safe and flexible.   You don't want any sharp or pointy edges to be exposed.
  • Children should only trick or treat in familiar areas, and only at homes that have their porch lights turned on.
  • Children should only trick or treat with a group or with their parents.
  • Never approach a house alone.
  • Have them walk - not run - on the pavement.

But most of all have fun !!
